On Board Air India One : India will make a strong pitch for a fair trading system and play a constructive role in bringing the Doha round of trade negotiations to a successful conclusion, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Thursday.
“Things are changing day to day in Geneva. India would make a constructive contribution to bringing Doha round to successful conclusion and to achieve a fair and balanced trading system,” the prime minister told reporters in a mid-air press conference on way back to India from a five-day tour to Nigeria and South Africa.
Earlier, in Johannesburg, the prime minister along with the leaders of Brazil and South Africa had affirmed their commitment to the Doha Development round of WTO talks and called for a fair and balanced trading regime.
Manmohan Singh had stressed that the three countries would work together to promote a consensus on the Doha round, especially on the issue of agricultural subsidies.
