Abu Dhabi : Dubai police have seized over one and a half million tablets of narcotics which had been smuggled into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be exported to another Gulf country, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Thursday.

A total of 1,527,000 tablets of Keptagon, a type of performance-improvement drug, were seized by the Drug Combat Department of Dubai police in an operation to foil the attempt to smuggle these drugs to another Gulf country, according to the report.

These Keptagon tablets, weighing 285 kg and worth 15 million dirhams (4.09 million U.S. dollars), were trafficked into the UAE by an Arab man.

The man was arrested along with two other men of the same nationality as they were loading the shipment of textiles containing the Keptagon tablets in a warehouse.

Keptagon is a type of Amphetamine, a prescription synthetic mood-altering drug. It is also used illegally as a recreational club drug and as a performance enhancer.

Long-term abuse or overdose effects of Keptagon can include restlessness, changed sleep patterns, anxiety and a weakened immune system, while prolonged abuse can lead to erectile dysfunction, heart problems, stroke, and liver, kidney and lung damage.
