Kolkata : EverythingAboutWater, India’s leading information and marketing solution provider in the water industry, will organise a Regional Exhibition and Conference on Water and Wastewater Management (RegEx 2007) in the city between Nov 1 and 3.

“The show will provide a platform for all leading players in the water arena to discuss recent developments and technological advances in the water industry and to find effective solutions to water recycling,” EA Water Pvt Ltd managing director Sunil Ghorawat said.

He said with the increasing number of development projects in West Bengal, both in industry and realty, groundwater levels are getting being depleted rapidly.

In West Bengal, per capita availability of water has fallen from 996 cubic metres (cum) in 1991 to 844 cum in 2001. It is expected to go down further to 720 cum in 2011, he said.

EA Water has already organised about 100 water and wastewater events across India to generate awareness amongst the people.

Realising the need for a focused trade show at the regional level, the company has started a series of regional expos in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chandigarh this year.

Talking about wastewater management, Ghorawat said about 80 percent of India’s total available water is consumed by agriculture, and about 12 and eight percent is consumed for domestic and industrial uses, respectively.

“The global market of water is worth $400 billion (Rs.15.8 trillion) while the total water industry in India is worth only $4 billion (Rs.158.4 billion). The Indian water industry is growing at a rate of 15 percent annually and there’s a huge scope to adopt new technological advancements,” he said.

Ghorawat said that upcoming industries like steel, chemical and fertilisers and cement in West Bengal will create serious scarcity of surface water in the days to come.
