Amman : Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Thursday met with U.S. First Lady Laura Bush, who is visiting Jordan as part of a Middle East tour aimed at boosting breast cancer awareness and research.
Abdullah appreciated Bush’s efforts in promoting health care around the world and valued U.S. assistance to health programs in Jordan, particularly aids to King Hussein Cancer Center, according to official Petra news agency.
It was important to establish a center in Jordan for early detection of breast cancer, one of the leading causes of women’s death, the king was quoted as saying.
Abdullah and Bush also discussed Jordan’s efforts to improve health services and modernize the educational system in the country.
The U.S. first lady expressed appreciation of the advanced level of health care and medical services in Jordan, affirming her continued cooperation with Jordanian health centers and medical institutions.
Jordan is the last stop of Bush’s tour in the region which will end on Friday. She has also visited the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
