Families crossed Kashmir border to return to their village are arrested

Srinagar: At least three families comprising seventeen persons, including ten children, crossed over to this side from Pakistan Administered Kashmir in Uri sector of Baramulla district of North Kashmir.

Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the families were temporarily living in PAK and shifted to their ancestral village after crossing the border. However, all of them have been arrested by the army and handed over to police for investigation.

It was learnt that army personnel manning a forward post, Pandu Post near Gawalan Uri, noticed a group of people approaching towards the LoC. Troops maintained close vigil on the infiltrators but restrained from opening fire as children and women were present in the group, defence sources said.

They added that soon after stepping into this side of border, the infiltrators were taken into custody and handed over to local police. The family had early moved to the other side of border about a decade back, sources added.

The arrested infiltrators have been identified as 45 year old Muhammad Rafiq son of Mohammad Akram his daughters Shamima Akhtar (10), Shah Naz Akhtar (8), Zaheen Akhtar (6), Sara (3), his two sons Muhammad Shafiq (14), Muhammad Royeel (2) and his wife Hashim Begum, Mohammad Akbar S/o Salam Din his wife Hamida Begum and daughters Naseema Akhtar (16), Shaheen Akhtar (13), Sabia (7), Shameema Akhtar (2) and son Muhammad Zahid (6) all residents of Gawalan Uri, Mehraj-ud-Din (25) S/o Qasim Din R/o Mothal Uri and his wife Shaheen Akhtar (18).
