Washington : US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has singled out Iran as the sole challenge facing the United States in the Middle East and the world.
“We are very concerned that the policies of Iran constitute perhaps the single, greatest challenge for American security interests in the Middle East and possibly around the world,” said Rice before the House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee Wednesday.
“The combination of Iranian terrorism, Iranian repression at home and the pursuit of nuclear weapons technology, technologies that could lead to nuclear weapons, is a very dangerous mix,” she added.
Rice noted that the United States will keep on moving forward with the international community on “the two-track” approach of diplomacy and sanctions in dealing with Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
She called upon Tehran to stop enrichment and reprocessing activities as a precondition for negotiations and noted that the United States is still working toward banning foreign investments in Iran.
