Jerusalem : Israel closed its southern Suffa border crossing with the Gaza Strip Monday, leaving one crossing open for humanitarian aid and tightening its closure of the Strip, a military spokeswoman said
The only outlet to remain open is the Kerem Shalom crossing, near the border crossing with Egypt, she said.
Israel closed its main goods crossing with the Gaza Strip, the Karni commercial terminal east of Gaza City, in June after the violent takeover of the Strip by the radical Islamic Hamas movement.
Israel’s Highest Court of Justice, meanwhile, rejected late Sunday a petition by human rights organisations calling on it to overrule an Israeli government decision to reduce electricity and fuel supplies to Gaza.
The decision was made in response to ongoing, near-daily rocket attacks from the area at southern Israel.
The court, nevertheless, ordered the state to phrase an argument within five days as to why the measure should not be prevented, Israel Radio reported.
