Gaza : Up to 37 policemen and citizens were injured in clashes that broke out between Israeli policemen and Arab citizens in northern Israel on Tuesday.
The Israeli police said 37 people, among them 27 policemen, were injured in the fierce confrontations that took place in Al-Buqai’a village in Al-Jaleel (the Galilee) north of Israel and two of the injured were in critical condition.
An Israeli police spokesman said the inhabitants of the village lit on fire a house that belonged to an Israeli living near the village.
Around 200 Israeli policemen stormed the village which is inhabited by a majority of Druzes, he added.
He said the police were forced to release five people arrested from the village after the villagers held an Israeli policewoman who had a hand in the arrest campaign.
According to the radio, the clashes broke out after the Israeli police carried out an arrest campaign in the village for suspects accused of burning an antennae for mobile phones in the village a few days ago.
