New Delhi : Exiled former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz was Wednesday recuperating after a knee surgery in a leading hospital here.
She had the knee replacement surgery reportedly at the Fortis Flight Lieutenant Rajan Dhall Hospital in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj colony Tuesday.
When contacted, hospital officials refused to disclose any information, citing patient confidentiality.
Informed sources said Kulsoom Nawaz was treated by a team of doctors led by the hospital’s head of orthopaedics department, Ashok Rajgopal, who was appointed the Indian President’s honorary surgeon in 1997.
After her husband was deported soon after entering Pakistan in September, Kulsoom, based in London, had been vocal about her plans to return in his stead.
Last month, she was quoted in Pakistani media reports as saying that she would return after Eid-ul-fitr, which took place Oct 14.
Sharif and his family went to Saudi Arabia in 2000 in a political exile, following the military coup that brought Pakistani army chief General Pervez Musharraf to power.
