Chandigarh : The general officer commanding-in-chief of the Western Command, one of India’s frontline commands, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, retired from service Wednesday after putting in 40 years with the armed forces.
He was accorded a warm send-off by officers and jawans of the Western Command at its headquarters at Chandimandir, 10 km from here. He was escorted on a horse-drawn buggy in a ceremonial farewell.
He handed over reins of the command to Lt Gen T.K. Sapru, an infantry officer.
A product of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh was commissioned into the 8th Light Cavalry in 1967.
Singh was army commander here for two years.
