Kathmandu : A year after the Maoists signed a peace pact with the government ending their violent guerrilla war, a series of bombs exploded in at least five busy areas of Kathmandu valley Sunday afternoon, spreading panic and casting doubts about the upcoming election.
Early reports said at least two bystanders were killed and over a dozen injured in the blasts, four of which occurred in the capital.
Four of the busiest areas in the capital, Balaju, Kalimati, Tundikhel and Tripureshwor, were targeted by unknown attackers.
One of the explosions occurred in front of the newly built World Trade Centre in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu’s tallest shopping complex and conference area, while another went off close to it in Tundikhel, near the army officers’ club.
A fifth blast was reported in Kirtipur.
No one had claimed responsibility for the explosions immediately.
