New Delhi : A committee to examine the India-US civil nuclear deal, with members drawn from the constituents of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and Left parties, will be formed within a couple of days, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said here Tuesday.
“It will be formed in a day or two,” the minister, who has emerged as the main troubleshooter for the government, told reporters on the margins of a seminar here, when asked when the names of the panel members would be announced.
“Wait for the committee to be formed,” the minister added to a query whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi would also be in the committee.
In the wake of strong protests by the Left parties against the 123 agreement with the US, intended to open up nuclear commerce for India after three decades, the government decided to form a committee to address their concerns and find a way out of the imbroglio.
The committee is also expected look into the impact of the 123 agreement on the nation’s foreign policy and security cooperation.
