New Delhi : India has earned a direct qualification for the World Cup of Golf 2007, scheduled to be held Nov 22-25 at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, China.
Jyoti Randhawa and Gaurav Ghei will represent the country at the prestigious team competition, where the combined ranking of the participating players is the qualifying criteria.
Randhawa, currently ranked 102, and Ghei, the next highest ranked Indian professional in the world wankings, earned the direct berth for the finals. T
This is only the second time India qualified directly, the previous one being in 2005. That was also India’s the best performance at the event when Randhawa partnered Arjun Atwal to finish a creditable ninth.
“I was very satisfied with my 2005 performance as we finished ninth. This time around I have an opportunity to improve on my performance. The fact that Gaurav Ghei is playing fabulous golf at the moment, augurs well for our team”, said an excited Jyoti Randhawa.
Ghei, maling his third World Cup appearance for India, said: “Its an honour to represent the country at such an event. The competition is going to be stiff and we have to be consistent and give our best. I have a great partner in Jyoti Randhawa.”
