Blast rocks Peshawar, 17 injured

Islamabad : At least 17 people were injured Saturday when a powerful car bomb ripped through a busy commercial area in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, officials said.

The explosion in the parking lot also damaged nine vehicles at Cantonment Plaza in Peshawar, provincial law Minister Malik Zafar Azam told DPA.

No one has accepted responsibility for the attack, but pro-Taliban militants are suspected as they have increased attacks on provincial security forces after government troops stormed Islamabad’s radical Red Mosque in early July.

More than 300 people have died in the retaliatory attacks since then.

Meanwhile, two paramilitary soldiers were injured in the neighbouring tribal district of Bajaur when a bomb exploded near a security checkpoint, Geo news channel reported.
