Johannesburg : Powered by a hard-hitting 61 by Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by seven wickets in their Twenty20 World Championship match here Saturday.
Electing to bat first, New Zealand scored 164 for seven wickets with help from Ross Luteru Taylor (62) and Jacob Oram (33).
However, no score was challenging enough for Sri Lanka as Jayasuriya continued his fine form, who was supported by Mahela Jayawardane (35). The islanders reached the target with a boundary, scoring 168 for 3 in 18.5 overs.
