Havana : Zimbabwean vice-President, Joyce Teurai Ropa Mujuru, paid tribute on Tuesday in this capital to the Cuban combatants who fell in action in the struggles for liberation in the island and abroad.
Teurai Ropa Mujuru visited Havana’s Colon cemetery to lay a wreath on the monument to the fallen, and paid special honor to the Cuban fighters who died fighting for the independence of the African people.
The visit of the high-ranking Zimbabwean official to Cuba reflects the excellent relations existing between the two countries which have signed several cooperation agreements in various areas including healthcare and education.
Teurai Ropa Mujuru extolled the work of the 136 Cuban health workers currently paying service in Zimbabwe and noted that over 3,000 students from his country have graduated in Cuba -2,997 in higher education.
Cuba thanked Zimbabwe for the support at the United Nations Summit where most participants every year condemn the financial, economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
Zimbabwe has a population of 13 million inhabitants and is located in the southern part of the African continent. It established diplomatic relations with Cuba on April 20, 1980.
