Kabul : At least 15 militants were killed in two separate military operations in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, a military statement said Tuesday.
The statement from the defence ministry of Afghanistan said at least seven Taliban fighters had been killed in Garmsir district when they ambushed a convoy of Afghan and coalition troops Monday.
Nine militants were killed in another operation in Kajaki district in southern Helmand province, the statement added. No Afghan or coalition troops, or civilians, were harmed, it said. There was no immediate independent confirmation of casualties.
Clashes between Taliban-led rebels and Afghan government and international military allies have intensified in the past weeks.
