New York : Recitations from ancient Hindu scriptures filled the air at the funeral service of a prominent Christian bishop in Nevada.
Rajan Zed, a Hindu chaplain in New Jersey, recited Sanskrit shlokas from the Rig Veda, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita at the funeral service of Reverend Douglas Eugene Savoy, head bishop of the International Community of Christ in Reno Thursday.
Besides reading from Hindu scriptures, the service included Arabic recitation from Koran by Tunay Durmaz of Sierra Foundation, Buddhist prayers by William Bartlett of Reno Buddhist Church, while Clair Earl, State President of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, quoted from the Book of Mormon.
Zed, the director of interfaith relations at a Hindu temple in Reno, New Jersey, made history in July when he opened the US senate with the chanting of ancient Hindu scriptures in a ceremony disrupted by a few Christian protestors from the visitor’s gallery.
