IUCN and Netherlands join hands for Balochistan’s sustainable development

Islamabad : Netherlands and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) singed an other agreement here Wednesday for Balochistan’s sustainable development particularly to improve water availability in the province.

The programme, funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy will be implemented by IUCN and will be completed in six years at a cost of Rs. 448.8 million.

A ceremony was held at the Netherlands’s embassy in this regard where the agreement was signed. Country representative of IUCN Sohail Maqbool Malik, Regional Coordinator of IUCN Hamid Sarfraz represented IUCN while Mrs. Aban Marker Kabraji and Willem Andreae represented the Embassy of Netherlands.

The Baluchistan sustainable development programme started in March 2002 and was initially a 5 year programme aimed at implementation of the Balochistan Conservation Strategy through knowledge management, capacity building, institutional strengthening and improved governance by addressing issues of environmental- and water management.
