New York : Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has conferred with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the 62nd UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters here.

At the meeting Tuesday, the OIC secretary-general briefed Ahmadinejad on the latest activities of the OIC in drafting a new charter for the organisation, construction of a new headquarters for the OIC as well as upgrading cooperation among Islamic states.

Elaborating on the measures taken by the OIC to deal with Islamophobia, he underlined the need for collective cooperation at scientific gatherings to introduce the real face of Islam.

He described the speech delivered by the Iranian president at Columbia University as a reflection of realities and praised it.

The Iranian president delivered a very good and “polite” speech at Columbia University, he said and lambasted the “impolite behaviour” of the Colombian University president towards the Iranian president.

“It is among the grave responsibilities of the OIC to depict the real face of Islam and we all should do our best to this end but it is quite clear that those who are afraid of justice have no interest in listening to us,” he said.

The Iranian president voiced Tehran’s readiness to put its experience in peaceful use of nuclear technology at the disposal of all Islamic countries as a token of its goodwill.

He also expressed the hope that under the management of the OIC secretary-general the issues of world Muslims would be properly addressed.
