Srinagar : A militant and a Special Police Officer of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in two separate incidents in Kashmir region, since last 24 hours.
Official sources said that troops of 12 Assam launched a search operation at Tuli Pathri general area near Line of Control in frontier district of Kupwara, early today.
The operation culminated into a brief encounter in which one militant was killed. The identification of the slain militant could not be ascertained immediately, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, he said, police recovered a bullet ridden body of a SPO in Kulgam district.
Giving details, he said, villagers noticed a body lying in the outskirts of Branpora village in Kulgam district and informed the police. A police team rushed to the spot and took the body under its possession.
The deceased was later identified as Special Police Officer (SPO) Shabir Ahmad Wani son of Muhammed Maqbool of Achtal Kulgam presently at Chawalgam Kulgam falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kulgam.
The deceased, the spokesman said, was posted on guar duty at the residence a PDP leader Abdul Salam at Mangam Qazigund. However, police said it was ascertaining as under what circumstances the SPO has been killed.
