Anand : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence that the youths of Gujarat will successfully overcome the challenge posed by Chinese engineering and manufacturing sectors.

“Gujarat is on everyone’s radar… Gujarati youth has to compete with China in engineering and manufacturing sectors… I am sure the youth will take up this challenge,” the chief minister told the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Birla Vishvakarma Engineering College here Monday.

Modi lauded the vision of ‘Bhaikaka’ – the distinguished Kheda engineer who helped set up the agriculture university here under Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s guidance – and the Sardar himself for setting up the ‘Charutar Vidya Mandal’ and the Engineering College.

After the success of the ship-breaking industry, Gujarat was witnessing the rapid development of the shipbuilding and ship repairing sectors that promised vast opportunities in engineering and technology, Modi said.

“In aerospace and aero technology too, Gujarat is going to play a pivotal role. A coach factory planned to manufacture metro-railway coaches would also add to faster economic development,” he said.

Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who attended the event, called upon the youth to realise the dream of a developed India. “Vision-2020 is designated to achieve that goal,” he said.

Referring to the tremendous potential in agriculture, rural technology and the knowledge economy, Kalam said tremendous opportunities were available for critical research which the youth ought to tap.
