Surat: A local Tada court acquitted all the 14 accused in the murder case of six people in the Rander area of Surat during the riots that broke out after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992.

For want of evidence, Judicial Magistrate RP Dholaria acquitted all the accused — Dahya Patel, Suresh Solanki, Gopal Gupta, Manoj Gupta, Kamal Vaidh, Gulab Sindhi, Pradudhan Patel, Raju Soni, Subhash Prajapati, Raju Kahar, Raju Salman alias Raju Patel, Chandrakant Kahar, Manish Mehta and Vinayak Kahar.

On December 8, 1992, two days after the demolition of the mosque, a mob of about 1,500 people had targeted houses of Muslims in Evergreen and Hidayat Nagar societies in the Palanpur Patia area. They stole valuables and torched the houses after killing six people. Communal riots had broken out in several parts of the country.

A complaint in this connection was lodged with the Rander police. The police had framed charges against 14 people on 29th September 2003 for their involvement in the murders and rioting.
