Istanbul : Turkish troops killed seven rebels of the outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in their ongoing security operations in the southeastern province of Sirnak on Wednesday, Turkish General Staff said in a statement.
This brought the number of PKK rebels killed in the last two days to 16, said the statement.
Turkish troops have been staging operations against the PKK in Sirnak’s Bestler-Dereler region since Monday. Nine PKK rebels were killed on Tuesday.
Three Turkish soldiers were killed and five others wounded in a clash in Sirnak on Monday night.
Turkey has been fighting with the PKK, which took up arms in 1984 to establish an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey.
More than 30,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict between the Turkish army and the PKK, which is listed asa terrorist organization by Turkey and the United States.
