Tel Aviv : Israel plans to build another 1,908 houses in the Palestinian territory this year, the highest number of constructions in the occupied territories in the last ten years, according to official information released on Wednesday.
The new houses will be built in the settlements found in the areas of Beitar Illit, Ariel, Givat Seev and Maale Adumim.
According to Yediot Ahaaronot daily, the 1,908 houses are included in the annual plan of the Israeli Ministry of Housing for 2008.
A text released by the Israeli Peace Now Movement on Monday denounced that the Israeli authorities speeded up the construction of houses in the occupied Palestinian territories in the last few months, contrary to what was agreed in the meeting held in the US city of Annapolis.
The building of houses increased at a speed without precedents, says the report, and adds that more than 500 buildings are currently being built in Jerusalem, considered by Palestinians as their national capital.
