Bhopal : The Bhopal unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has registered a record turnover of Rs.28.08 billion with a profit before tax (PBT) of Rs.5 billion in 2007-08, the company said Friday.
R.K. Singh, executive director of the firm’s unit here, described the record turnover as a “historical achievement”. He said BHEL’s growth here has been above 20 percent in all fields – be it export turnover, order inflow or capital expenditure.
While the export turnover touched Rs.3.68 billion, order inflow reached over Rs.40 billion, capital expenditure remained at Rs.17.3 billion and value added during the last fiscal has been Rs.11.55 billion, Singh said.
He said that BHEL was committed to fulfil the ambitious power generation plan of the central government, for which many projects were under execution in the area of capacity augmentation and technology upgrading.
BHEL, he said, has already augmented its production capacity to 10,000 MW per year and will further increase it to 15,000 MW per year by December 2009. The company is investing Rs.42 billion for this purpose during the 11th Five Year Plan period (2007-12).
“Maintaining its trend of profitability BHEL (Bhopal) has not only achieved a new benchmark in its annual turnover and profit before tax this year but it has also achieved many milestones in the fields of engineering, technology upgradation and modernisation,” Singh added.
He said the firm plans to recruit 20,000 people by the end of the 11th plan.
“As many as 430 artisans, 60 supervisors and 94 engineer trainees have been recruited in the Bhopal unit during the last financial year,” he said.
