Thiruvananthapuram : Newly-elected Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member from Kerala Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Friday said that the media and anti-Marxist forces were responsible for projecting factionalism in the Kerala unit of the party.

Speaking to reporters, he said the party cadres were misled by reports of factionalism but now realised the truth.

Balakrishnan was elected to the politburo at the CPI-M Congress, which concluded in Coimbatore on Thursday.

“At the party conference, a document has been approved on the kind of relation the party and the government should have in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura. All the issues in Kerala would now be discussed in the backdrop of the document and the state committee of the party will come out with clear-cut directives,” Balakrishnan, who is state minister for tourism and home, said.

Asked about his unexpected election to the politburo contrary to news reports mentioning other names, Balakrishnan said, “At least now you should understand that media reports about our party are totally baseless.”
