Manama : The supreme council for Islamic affairs expressed in a statement Thursday utter sorrow over the escalating hostility and unjust war waged from time to time against Islam which has recently been slandered by Dutch MP Geert wilders through his film Fitna in which he associated Islam with violence and bloodthirstiness and held it responsible for global terror crimes.
In its statement, the council quoted a German Christian author who impartially defended Islam as the greatest religion on earth in terms of tolerance and equity and slammed the anti-Islamic defamatory prejudices which she traced to historical distortion and peoples ignorance of the very essence of Islam. The statement drew anti-Islam extremists that Muslims have under 0. 5 involvements in the death of the 250 million people killed from 1907 to 2007.
The council called for peaceful protests that reflect the civilized aspect of Islam and to resist all provocation. It also recommended dialogue with the many free-minded and objective people in the west to spread the true tenets of Islam and shed light on the life and precepts of Prophet Mohammed. The council also called on the Islamic states and Organisation of Islamic conference (OIC) to continue pushing for a UN resolution that incriminates the defamation of religious sanctities for the sake of global peace and security.
