Srinagar : Seventeen Tibetan settlers were Saturday arrested near the India-China border in Ladakh for attempting to cross over into Tibet.

Police here said a group of 15 Tibetan men and two women on way to Tibet were intercepted in the border village of Humua in Leh district of Ladakh.

“The group was detained by the police and a case has been registered against them,” a senior police officer here said.

Tibetan settlers in Leh in the frontier cold desert region of Ladakh have been holding daily protests after violence in Lhasa in March.

Tibetans last month marched in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar to protest and “express solidarity with their brethren in Tibet”.
