Cairo : Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa has here to pursue mediation in the Lebanese political standoff in the coming period.
“The Arab Summit, held in Damascus in late March, assigned the Arab Foreign Ministers Council to solve the presidential crisis in Lebanon,” he said in statements to the press Thursday.
Moussa said he held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and visiting Saudi King Abdullah Bin-Abdulaziz in Sharm El-Sheikh Wednesday night on the developments of the Lebanese crisis, the inter-Arab ties and the course of Arab-Israeli peace process following the Annapolis meeting.
Answering a question about the reported threat by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to break through the Egyptian borders, Moussa said: “We are following the affairs with great concern.”
“We hope the affairs will not add problems to the inter-Arab ties,” he added.
King Abdullah Bin-Abdulaziz left Sharm El-Sheikh Wednesday night for home, wrapping up a brief visit to Egypt.
