Hyderabad : At least two people were killed in the clashes between workers of the ruling Congress party and the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district Thursday.

The clashes occurred in Akka Chrevulu in Prakasam district in south coastal Andhra, about 400 km from here.

The police said one TDP activist was killed and another injured when a group of Congress workers allegedly attacked them when they were on their way to a local court.

The slain TDP worker has been identified as Kankaih, who was an accused in the murder of village sarpanch Venkat Reddy. He with his supporters was going to the court for the hearing of the case.

The TDP activists later retaliated by killing one Congress worker in the village. The police said the two groups had a long running feud that led to the incidents.

The clashes caused tension in the area. Additional police force has been rushed and order prohibiting the assembly of four or more people imposed in the area.
