Kathmandu : UN mission in Nepal (UNMIN) condemned the death of five activists and a communist candidate to the Constituent Assembly a few hours before elections begin in this small kingdom of Himalaya.
On Thursday 17 million 600 thousand Nepalese people are called on to elect their representatives to the Constituent Assembly that will abolish Monarchy.
The legislative organ is also preparing a new Constitution joining the peace process signed in November between the government and the rebels to end 10 years of struggle that have killed over 13 thousand.
In a communiqué spread on Wednesday UNMIN chief Ian Martin demanded to arrest and withdrawn from their functions the policemen suspicious of shooting demonstrators in Surkat city, at about 236 miles from Katmandû.
According to official sources the police acted against a protest for the murder of candidate Rishi Prasad Sharma, member of the Marxixt-Leninist United Communist Party who was shot the day before and died in the hospital.
A team from the organization organized the shooting that also killed six leftwing activists at about 186 miles eastern Katmandu, said Martin.
These deaths raised the number of deceased to eight in the last few hours in this South Asian country which were victims of the soldiers fire,
In the period previous to the elections at least 20 people died, among them two candidates.
