Mumbai : Logistics and courier services leader DHL has initiated the implementation of norms laid down by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) in a bid to contain the increasing environmental degradation.

Announcing this here Friday, DHL said in an official statement that the company has embarked on the implementation of two of the ISO standards – ISO 9001:2000 for quality management and ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management.

The implementation would be done in its freight-forwarding business unit. DHL Global Forwarding’s entire operation in Asia-pacific, covering 200 facilities across 14 countries, has also received a full certification, making it aligned to ISO.

According to DHL, the freight-forwarding firm has also trained five percent of its staff in auditing which would help the company in complying with audits and also in checking out aberrations that may crop up in the processes.

Moreover, the ISO 14001:2004 certification is granted when a company endeavours to put into practice environmental management systems and operations in a manner which may help in enhancing the environmental upgradation.
