Robbers strike – with a gun and wedding invitation

Ghaziabad : A woman in ‘burqa’ and two men entered a real estate developer’s house here on the pretext of inviting him to a wedding and fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs.1 million.

The seemingly well-organised break in took place in the afternoon at Rajendra Nagar area of Ghaziabad, a district in Uttar Pradesh bordering the Indian capital.

According to family sources, two men aged around 25 years and the woman reached the house of Anwar Malik saying they wanted to give him a wedding invitation.

Believing them, one of Malik’s sons escorted them to the drawing room. There, one of them men took out a pistol and forced the inmates to part with the keys of their safe.

Yasmin Malik, the businessman’s wife, said the robbers escaped with 950 grams of gold jewellery, Rs.50,000 in cash and other valuables besides two mobile telephones.

At the time of the robbery, there were eight members of the family in the house, including three sons and daughters each, Malik’s wife and a sister-in-law.
