BJP demands white paper on price rise

By IANS,

Shimla : Lashing out at the ruling Congress on the rising prices in the country, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday asked the government to come up with a detailed explanation on how the problem is being tackled.

“The rising prices of food and other essential commodities have hit everyone hard. The ruling Congress needs to explain its position by releasing a white paper on the issue,” said BJP president Rajnath Singh.

Singh was speaking at a public rally in Solan town, 48 km from here.

“The Congress is guilty of failing to tackle the price rise issue, and it doesn’t have the courage to bring out a white paper,” he alleged.

He also said, “The BJP will not allow job reservations for Muslims and other minorities as proposed by the Congress.”

“This is only a ploy to appease the minorities. The BJP favours the economic base as a criterion for reservations,” he added.

The BJP president criticised the government for what he said “mishandling of the Tibet issue”.

“The Tibet issue hasn’t been handled properly by the Congress. We cannot accept the bullying of the Indian ambassador in China, who was summoned by Chinese authorities at 2 a.m. (last month),” Singh said.
