Melbourne : An Indian IT firm, Satyam Computer Services, has chosen regional city of Geelong, about 50km from here, as the site for its new software development and training campus.

The firm says it will feature facilities for training and research and development, as well as a convention centre and housing, the Australian Associated Press reports.

The Victorian State Premier John Brumby said the centre was expected to boost Victoria ‘s economy by about A$175 million a year within a decade and create about 2,000 jobs.
The training centre will be housed on a 10 hectare campus and will have links with the nearby Deakin University to source talent.

“The Geelong campus is an important component of our long-term initiative to build new centres of excellence, in strategic locations, around the globe,” Satyam chairman Rama Raju is quoted as saying.

Satyam is a leading global consulting and information technology services company, with an annual revenue expected to top US$2 billion in 2007-2008, and a global workforce of about 42,000.
