BJP leads in Lok Sabha by-poll in Madhya Pradesh

By IANS,

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was Wednesday leading over the Congress in the Betul Lok Sabha by-election.

BJP’s Hemant Khandelwal had attained a lead of more than 30,000 votes over his Congress rival Sukhdev Panse at the end of the six rounds of counting for the election held April 12.

Counting of votes started at 8 a.m. at Betul and Harda towns amidst tight security and the results are expected by 4 p.m.

About 60.53 percent of the 1.1 million electorate exercised their franchise at 1,219 polling centres to decide the fate of 14 candidates in the fray.

The by-poll was necessitated after BJP’s Vijay Khandelwal passed away last November.
