BJP wins Betul; it is due to our good work, says Chouhan

By IANS,

Bhopal : Madhya Pradesh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday won the Betul Lok Sabha by-election, a victory that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attributed to the good work done by his government in its four-year rule.

The BJP won the by-election by a margin of over 35,000 votes. The party’s Hemant Khandelwal bagged 300,674 votes, while his Congress rival Sukhdev Panse managed 265,234 votes in the by-election held Saturday.

“Even the usual anti-incumbency factor was not visible during the bye-election. This was only because of the welfare and development works done by the government. Proper election management by the party also helped in garnering votes to retain the seat,” he said.

Chouhan said the price rise also helped his party bag votes.

The Congress had contested the polls with its full might and the caste equation was also in its favour like never before, he said.

The by-poll was caused after the BJP’s Vijay Khandelwal died last November.
