IPL would not hurt other forms of cricket: Yuvraj Singh

By IANS,

Mohali (Punjab) : The only player to have six sixes in an over in a Twenty20 cricket game, Yuvraj Singh Wednesday said he saw nothing wrong playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite hectic schedule of international teams around the world.

“I don’t know why people go overboard saying that IPL will do this or that to cricket. It is being held only for 44 days. It will not affect other (forms of) cricket,” Yuvraj told reporters here.

Yuvraj, the captain and icon player for his home team Kings XI Punjab, was here to practice with other team mates for their first encounter with the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Superkings at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium Saturday. He said that the IPL format would give a lot of exposure to cricketers.

Yuvraj’s team mates in the Mohali side, owned by Bollywood actress Priety Zinta and her boyfriend Ness Wadia, include Australian speedster Bret Lee, S. Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan, Kumara Sanghakkara and Mahela Jayawardene among others.

They will be pitted against the Chennai team featuring Dhoni, Mathew Hayden, Sri Lankan spin maestro Muthiah Murlitharan and Michael Hussey.

“The hype being built around me and Dhoni is good. It will be a great competition. We are friends but there will be no friendship on the field. Maybe, I will crack a joke with him after the game,” Yuvraj said.

The southpaw hoped that the PCA stadium here would have a full house for all IPL matches given the craze for the game in north India.
