By Xinhua,
Gaza : An Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement’s spokesman said Wednesday that Israel wants to impose a ceasefire agreement on militant groups by using force.
Abu Ahmed told reporters in Gaza that “the Zionist entity (Israel) is carrying out intensive military operations in order to force the resistance groups to accept a weak ceasefire agreement.”
On Wednesday, five Palestinian militants and three Israeli soldiers were killed in two Israeli ground operations carried out on eastern Gaza Strip. Hamas claimed responsibility for killing the three soldiers.
“On one hand, the Zionist army pressures the Palestinian resistance by such attacks, and on the other it offers a weak and a humiliating ceasefire through Egyptian and Palestinian mediators,” said Abu Ahmed.
Egypt has been mediating between Israel and Gaza militant groups to reach a ceasefire. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has officially asked Egypt and Israel to help reaching a ceasefire to avoid more blood shedding in Gaza.
Abbas has repeatedly described the homemade rockets that Gaza militants fire at Israel as “absurd rockets,” saying that rockets had brought Gaza population humanitarian disasters.
“The fierce gun battles and the killing of three Zionists today is a response to Abbas’ claims that resistance is absurd. Such statements give the enemy the excuse to continue its crimes against our people,” Abu Ahmed stressed.
