New Delhi : As many as 63 Tibetan protestors were detained when they tried to storm the Chinese Embassy at Delhi Wednesday, on the eve of the Olympic torch relay run in the city.
Nearly 100 Tibetan Youth Congress cadres tried to storm the Chinese Embassy here. 63 of them were detained by the city police.
The protestors waved Tibetan and Indian flags and wore headbands carrying messages — ‘Stop Cultural Genocide’, ‘No Olympics in China’, ‘No Torch Relay in India’ and ‘Free Tibet’. Some agitators tired to climb the walls of the Chinese Embassy, but such attempts were unsuccessful.
The Indian government has said that all necessary security arrangements have been made to ensure that the relay run passes off peacefully here Thursday. There are concerns that the agitating Tibetans could disrupt the torch run. Thousands of policemen have been deployed to prevent any disruptions along the two-km route from the Presidential House to India Gate monument in the city.
