Berlin : Germany has pledged to send more security training staff and increase its contributions to civilian reconstruction in Afghanistan.
The number of German police training officers would be increased to 45 from the current 30, Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said here after a meeting with the UN special envoy Kai Eide Thursday.
Jung said the number of military trainers had been doubled to 110 since August last year, and a further increase is planned.
Jung announced that Germany would increase its contributions to civilian reconstruction in Afghanistan to 140 million euros ($220 million) from 80 million euros ($127 million) previously.
By 2010, total contributions are expected to hit 900 million euros ($1,431 million).
In his visit to Berlin, Eide also met German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
