New greenfield airport policy before Lok Sabha polls: Patel

By IANS,

New Delhi : The government would soon announce its new policy on greenfield airports, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told the Lok Sabha Thursday.

A consolidated and updated policy would be in place for the greenfield airports well before the parliamentary elections, due to be held early next year, Patel assured the house.

Replying to a question on whether the airport developers would be allowed to use 10 percent to 15 percent of the allocated land for building malls, hotels and other infrastructure, he said only commercial activity which facilitates passengers was allowed.

Referring to the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, the minister said only five percent of the land was allocated for commercial use while in Mumbai it was 10 percent.

“We do not have any policy which allows 10-15 percent of land for commercial use to airport developers,” Patel said.
