Priety, Ness skip IPL inaugural for Mohali preparations

Mohali (Punjab) : Actress Priety Zinta and her industrialist beau Ness Wadia, joint owners of the ‘Kings XI Punjab’ Mohali team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Friday skipped the League’s inaugural tournament held in Bangalore.

The Bollywood star was present at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here for most part of the day to oversee preparations of the first match that her team plays against the M.S. Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings here Saturday.

Preity, Wadia and businessmen Mohit Burman of Dabur group and Karan Paul of the Apeejay group jointly own the Mohali team.

Preity had earlier said she chose the Mohali team because it was closest to her hometown Shimla in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, 120 km from here.

The Mohali team is led by southpaw Yuvraj Singh and has the likes of speedster Brett Lee, Kumara Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardane, Irfan Pathan and S. Sreesanth in its ranks.

Clad casually in blue jeans and a white top, Priety could be seen giving instructions and making arrangements for the first game here.

“She is attaching a lot of importance to having perfect arrangements on the home ground of her team,” a member of the PCA organising committee told IANS.

The brief inaugural ceremony at PCA Saturday will see Bhangra pop singer Daler Mehndi rendering the Mohali team’s anthem.
