Mumbai : Mumbai airport has recorded passenger traffic of 25.8 million during 2007-08, representing a 16.25 percent growth over the previous fiscal.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) handled 17.88 million domestic passengers and 7.98 million international passengers.
Commenting on the passenger growth, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) managing director G.V. Sanjay Reddy said: “The consistent and healthy year-on-year growth in passenger traffic at the CSIA, attributed to the strong demand in air travel, reinforces our position as the busiest airport in India and one of the busiest in South Asia as well.”
Meanwhile, 533,593 tonnes of cargo was handled by the CSIA in the same period, a healthy rise of 11.12 percent over last year.
The total air traffic movements (ATMs) handled were 230,246, of which 170,851 were domestic and 59,395 were international passengers.
MIAL is a joint venture between the GVK-SA Consortium and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). MIAL was awarded the mandate of modernising and upgrading CSIA in April 2006.
