Thiruvananthapuram : After battling it out in the state assembly for political gains, legislators in Kerala hit the playground Wednesday in a bid to out do each other on the field.
The legislators were taking part in a two-day sports meet organised to mark the golden jubilee of the state legislature.
The 140 members of the house were divided into four teams with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan captaining the Green Team. Leader of the opposition Oommen Chandy captained the Yellow Team, while Speaker K. Radhakrishnan and Deputy Speaker Jose Baby led the Red and Blue teams, respectively.
After inaugurating the event, the 84-year-old chief minister took part in the 400-meter walk event, in which he finished last.
The star of the day was E.S. Bijimol of the Communist Party of India. She won the 50-metre race and the shot put event in the women’s section.
