Kuala Lumpur : Detained Malaysian Indian leader P. Uthayakumar’s family says he is being denied medical care though he is a diabetic. But the country’s human rights commissioner says he is getting adequate medication.
Uthayakumar is one of the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders jailed for two years under the Internal Security Act (ISA) after staging a rally in November 2007 on behalf of Malaysia’s two million Tamil Hindus.
Earlier this month, his family alleged that he was suffering from poor health after being denied medical care and food despite being a diabetic.
However, Malaysian Human Rights Commissioner N. Siva Subramaniam Wednesday said the medicines prescribed by the health ministry was similar to the one supplied earlier by Uthayakumar’s family, reported Malaysia’s news agency Bernama.
