OIC Chief thanks King Abdullah for support

Jeddah : The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu paid tribute to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz for his constant support for the OIC and its institutions in general, and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in particular. Addressing the opening session of the 24th Session of the General Assembly of ICCI and the Fifth Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Chamber held here on Thursday, Prof. Ihsanoglu said that the 11th Islamic Summit Conference held in the Senegalese capital of Dakar gave a prominent place to the economic issues in view of the important role played by the economic dimension in joint Islamic Action in the advancement of the Ummah in the area of human development, according to an OIC statement.

In his statement, the Secretary General commended the efforts made by the ICCI in this regard and reiterated his full support for the ICCI Board of Directors. He said: “I am convinced that this meeting will achieve outstanding results and achievements for the Ummah to ensure its success in meeting the challenges of this Millennium”.

The Secretary General also stated that the government of Uganda will host an OIC Business Forum on June 16-17 prior to the 35th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. Also, the ICCI will organize the 12th Meeting of the Private Sector for the Promotion of Trade and Investment among Islamic Countries”. The Secretary General proposed that this meeting also be held in June in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
