By Xinhua,
Mosul, Iraq : A suicide bomber struck an Iraqi Army patrol in the city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province on Tuesday, killing an Iraqi soldier and wounding five others, a provincial security source said.
The attack took place in the afternoon when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into an army patrol and blew it up in the Yarmouk neighborhood in western Mosul, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The blast destroyed two of the patrol’s vehicles, the source said.
Iraqi security forces immediately cordoned off the area to secure the scene, while ambulances rushed to transport the victims to the city hospitals, he added.
Earlier in the day, Iraqi soldiers foiled another suicide tanker bomb attack on their military base in the city when they blew up the tanker before it reached the fortified entrance of the base.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has long been the hot bed of insurgency and one of the last strongholds of the al-Qaida in Iraq network.
