Chennai : The warden of a high-security prison here was caught accepting a bribe for smuggling banned goods like mobile phones and liquor into the jail Saturday, police said.
S. Solomon, 33, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs.8000 to smuggle prohibited items into the Puzhal prison, about 20 km north of here.
Police said a search of his residence yielded unaccounted cash worth Rs.30,000.
“The amount may seem small, but for this kind of money a huge number of banned items like cigarettes, mobile phones, SIM cards, liquor and drugs could have been smuggled in. Solomon has admitted his crime and is being questioned further,” Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) R. Nataraj told IANS.
